The Greek Parliament decided to adopt the unborn child of Captain Christos Moulas, who died in the line of duty after a Canadair plane he was piloting crashed during operations to quench wildfires.
The wife of Christos Moulas, as it became known, is in her third month of pregnancy.
The President of the Parliament, Konstantinos Tasoulas, announced that after a telephone conversation with the Minister of Defence, Nikos Dendias, it was decided that the Parliament would “adopt” the unborn child. The Minister of National Defence called Mr. Tasoulas to explore this possibility.
Konstantinos Tasoulas immediately accepted and raised the issue in the plenary session where the debate on the Finance Ministry bill is in progress.
The Parliament financially supports the children of those who died in the line of duty of the armed forces and security forces up to the age of 25 with a symbolic amount paid annually.
Two Greek air force pilots died after their plane crashed while fighting wildfires on the Greek island of Evia. The water-bombing plane crashed while battling a forest fire near Platanistos.
