"Our goal through the regional development plans is to formulate a coherent regional, economic and social development strategy. A national productive model that will ensure its sustainability in the face of the current but also the predicted challenges and crises," Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis stressed on Thursday at a meeting with regional governors.
"We can focus our policies on specific areas, such as mountainous areas, islands, but also specific policy areas, such as employment, civil protection, investment opportunities, the return of young people, the strengthening of social policies.
But strengthening the regions is a condition for reducing regional inequalities and ensuring their resilience," he noted.
"However, I want us to go one step further in the direction of accountability, transparency and information for every citizen. We will activate in the coming weeks an open, public platform that will be accessible to every citizen, where a much more detailed update will be provided on the projects that are completed, implemented and planned in each region, in each regional unit, in each municipality of country," the prime minister added.
In addition, he underlined that Greece has secured more than 80 billion euros for the coming years from the European financial tools, the cohesion funds, the Recovery Fund, the Rural Development Programme. "These are largely directed at regional development and I think it is our common challenge to be able to manage them in the most beneficial way," he said.
