PM Mitsotakis: Our focus is firmly directed on reforms

English

The government has a significant reform policy that allows it to convene twice per month, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said on Tuesday addressing the cabinet meeting.

The prime minister referred to the "increasing turmoil in our neighbourhood" reiterating that Greece, as a force of stability in the region, recognizes Israel's right to self-defense always based on international law and especially international humanitarian law.

"However, it separates the terrorist organization of Hamas from the Palestinian people and already in cooperation with other European countries, such as France and Cyprus, and always under the auspices of the UN, we are considering ways of providing humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip by sea, while of course we support firmly a definitive solution of the Palestinian issue in the logic of two states. We are a country that honors its alliances and that talks with all the involving parties," the prime minister stressed.

Referring to his interventions at the recent European Council on the new fiscal framework and the increase of the funds for natural disasters and migration,  he considered a significant development the increase in the number of countries that see now positively the exclusion of the expenses for defence from the excessive deficit index. "It is another Greek proposal which attracts more and more allies."

Mitsotakis also said that "our compass steadily points in the reforms, so all those I announced at the Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF) against tax evasion now take the form of a law. It is a constant battle against a deeply anti-social stance with which, as we have said many times, we don't compromise."
